The Lord’s Acre for a time you can drop off garden produce. We might be able to distribute it for you.
Food For Fairview:
Bring produce to Food For Fairview on Friday mornings between 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. It is good to check with The Lord’s Acre first so they don’t end up with too much of one thing (thelordsacre[at]gmail.com). FFF is located in the back, bottom floor of the old elementary school gym (the current Fairview Community Center).
The Welcome Table: Contact Barbara Trombatore (Barbdwyre[at]aol.com), 828-230-4874, or via The Fairview Welcome Table’s facebook page to let her know what you have available. Contact her between Sunday and Tuesday. (They shop and cook on Wed.) The Welcome Table will also can and freeze large quantities of food for winter use.
The Veteran’s Restoration Center takes larger quantities any day, any time. Just drive up and walk in and tell them what you have. They serve 200 men, 3 meals per day. Address: 1329 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805 Phone: 828-299-8701
Society of St. Andrews: A nation-wide gleaning organization that will harvest and take your excess produce and fruits to those in need. Contact Bill Walker at: gleanwnc[at]endhunger.org or by calling: 828-273-0025
Pick in the morning (for vegetables). Cool quickly until you get it to where it needs to be. Please wash and bag in unscented, plastic bags. Picking in the morning ensures the food is the most nutritious and last the longest. (Tomatoes, beans, squash, cukes, eggplant and berries can be picked later in the day but they are best when picked early)
